Inspired by Charleston

by Jennifer Bowen

Having recently visited Charleston, South Carolina I cannot but help be inspired by the history, architecture, and of course the antiques.  To view a great antique is to view history, and what better place to do so than one of our oldest, most heritage-rich cities.

I like to image the people who used the antique before, what type of home it may have graced, or where it may have been placed. It is this use which gives each piece character and warmth, a quality not to be replicated in even the finest bench made furniture today.

The wear and tear, love and appreciation that have left their marks (literally and figuratively) on the surface are what give antiques their value and charm.  I enjoyed perusing the wonderful, packed, treasure chests of antique shops, and highly recommend you do the same.
